Magic n' Muzzles

Magic n' Muzzles is DoubleTom's submission for Miz Jam 1. You play as a wizards' apprentice heading into the dungeon of the Dark Wizard Keith, who has stole the ancient relic of your Wizard order, the sacred cheese!

A retro style FPS that mixes both worlds of fantasy and modern. Use your wands to overcome the obstacles of the dungeon and your guns (big shout out to the Dwarven craftsmen) to destroy the foes in your path.

About this Project

When beginning this game jam we thought our simple little 'Retro FPS project' would be simple enough and within a few days we'd be happily sending out test builds to friends, we were very wrong. We only have one other game under our belt and we're both relatively new to Unity. We had a huge headache with collisions which took up an entire session of development and ran out of time to make a third level, main menu, credits screen, fix the camera and the additional polish we wish we could have committed. We've also had dozens of roadblocks along the way. We were just too ambitious with the scale of the project. After all, that's the wonder of game development, live and learn.

It's been a hard week and we've learnt a lot. There will probably be a bunch of bugs in the game but overall it's playable and hopefully you enjoy it. We just want to say it's been great to be a part of this game jam and we hope everyone else got something out of this and we look forward to playing everyone else's submissions.

Big thanks to Miziziziz and everyone that made this happen

Cracking game - this reminds me of the amiga pd days , obviously you've been pushed for time , but the gameplay still remains solid and most of all fun ! will you be returning to this project and polishing it up , love it guys !

This game was very different and cool and overall was enjoyably. It was cool how so simple things were still interesting and could be understood .I was wondering if you could join my discord and share other projects and maybe some your working on. I just made it and am trying to grow so i can have people to share my games and hopefully make mine and others more successful . https://discord.gg/djmW6kM

very nice
much like slime lad my favourite aspect of the game was the sound design, besides there being no music this time it overall pretty good, but the sound levels on things like the starting weapon were higher than other sounds in the game.

graphically I was able to easily differentiate all the blocks and appreciated the added sprites dotted throughout the levels.

the only issue I had with the game besides the sound levels was the hitbox placements on some of the walls which made it hard to run away from enemies but i'm basically really good at roblox phantom forces and it translated straight into Magic n' Muzzles and I definitely never got stuck once.

I overall thoroughly enjoyed playing and can't wait to see what Tom & Tom comes up with next.

I enjoyed playing this, reminded me of some old shooters from the 90s. I liked the responsiveness of the guns and the voice acting :).

I felt like it could do with slightly better feedback using the bomb wand, it wasn't obvious to me that it had worked when I fired it, and the cooldown was long so I couldn't try it multiple times very easily. I also found that when the ghost monsters got you you died very fast. Perhaps could do with a cooldown timer on the player getting hurt so you don't go from 3 hearts to 0 within a second.

Overall great job.

Thanks for playing so soon after upload and the feedback!

We really wish we had more time to polish it up before the submission time, we'll definitely take note of the suggestions you've given and maybe after the game jam we'll get chance to make it a silky smooth game. Cheers!
